A microchip helped track down a stolen puppy after it ended up a hundred miles away. A microchip helped track down a stolen puppy after it ended up a hundred miles away. Munchie, an eight-month-old Lurcher, was taken from a rehoming centre in Evesham and later found in Dartford. His brother Pickles was also taken by the thieves, who broke into the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre last October. When Munchie was found in the car park of Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford last week, he was scanned by the local council's dog warden and was immediately identified, a Dogs Trust spokeswoman said. Munchie, who was slightly underweight when he was found, is now living at the Dogs Trust Rehoming Centre in Canterbury until a new home can be found for him. Dogs Trust Evesham centre manager Chris Slight said: "At Dogs Trust we microchip all our dogs and this is a great example of the technology in action. "If Munchie had not been microchipped with our contact details and flagged as stolen we might never have seen him again. "Collars and tags are easily removed but microchips are a permanent form of identification. Copyright © Press Association 2010 | |||||
